I do like the OTL idea, since to me it looks like there is less in the signal that would mess with the signal. I have been looking at the MG head OTL III for some time now, and do wonder, if they would sound better with my headphones than the MG head. Also I heard more detail during through the Amity SS amp. The sound out of the headphones is nice and lush, but it does not have the well controled bass and sound, that I do get from the SS Amity. To see how my headphones sound with tube, I did construct an adapter, that lets me plug my headphone into the speaker out of my Conrad Johnson CAV 50. Since a while I have switched most of my SS components to tube componants. Built in led bias indicators, for easy, instrument-free biasing of the output stage.I've been using a SS Amity HP 2 headphone amp for several years with my olf and moddified Beyerdynamic DT 990. Hum and Noise (PRE OUT):94 dB relative to 2.5 V output Phase (speaker outputs): phase correct (non-inverting)įrequency Response: 20 Hz to 20 kHz, +0/-.5 dB PayPal please add 4% for fees.ĭescription: Integrated amplifier with passive input stage and tube output circuitry.Īmplifier Power (ultralinear operation): 45 watts per channel from 30 Hz to 15 kHz at no more than 1% THD, both channels driven into 4, 8, or 16 ohms. Biasing is a breeze.Īudition and pickup of the unit is most welcome in the DC/Mid-Atlantic region. Also of note is that the amplifier has a passive input stage which (when I was more into the techie aspects of my gear) was a pretty cool thing. Google this on the web to find a number of positive reviews. It will come with a quad of ElectroHarmonix E元4s as well as a quad of Svetlana Winged Cs. The integrated amp is in great condition and I find the styling absolutely classic. With limited use since then it's only just now started to open up as a definitive step higher on the audio-enjoyment scale. I'm the second owner and in 2012 took it to Conrad Johnson for servicing and their upgrade package to the C1 teflon capacitors (over $650). It pains me to put this CAV-50 up for sale, but given system and life changes it's just not getting used.
